Selected Writing

Below is a selection of my writing and reporting. For a more comprehensive list,  scroll further down the page.

    Profiles

I’ve profiled actors, directors, musicians, and artists for various publications: interviewing people like Matt Smith, who told me how he was chased down by dogs while he was sporting a mohikan for Caught Stealing; or Tim Roth, who talked growing up in Brixton and his days in Students Aganst Nazis; and Michelladonna, who gave me the inside secrets on how to be cat whisperer.

    A selection of profiles:
    1. Hunger (Cover) Matt Smith is Punk
    2. Hunger (Cover) Jack O’Connell Keeps his Cards Close to his Chest
    3. Layered (Cover) Hannah Jones is a Ray of Light
    4. Polyester Michelladonna on New York City, Immigrant Communities, and Shop Cats
    5. Metal Frost Children are the Holy Warriors of Pop

    Arts

I’ve produced arts coverage that has spanned cinema, novels, painting, photography, ikebana, tattooing, and more. My arts articles are heavily reserached - engaging with the cultural context of the work’s production, whilst also acknowledging the inherent newness that comes in the creation of art. I’ve penned retrospective, career-long pieces as well as specific, exhibition-focused articles.

    A selection of arts stories:
    1. Polyester Frida Wannaberger’s ‘The Dinosaur Tree’ Explores Girlhood, Power, and Post-Feminism
    2. Schön!  Hal Fisher’s Photography Defined the 1970s Gay Identity
    3. Non-Threatening Boys ‘Cherub’ Explores the Intersections of Masculinity, Fatness, and Sexuality
    4. Rakesprogress The Art of Drawing Flowers
    5. The Quietus Jungle Just Crushes:  Two Fingas on his Novels Chronicling London’s 1990s Ravers

    Culture

I’ve written stories that explored the record label fighting to preserve Palestinian music; a transmasc wrestling troupe based out of Los Angeles; and buzkashi, a  horse-back sport that’s played in Central Asia. My culture articles are intervew-led and place the voices of the subjects at the forefront of the story. My approach to interviewing is trauma-informed, and I’ve had experience interviewing and working with vulnerable communities.

    A selection of culture stories:
    1. Dazed Inside the Camp, Chaotic World of T-Boy Wrestling
    2. The Quietus Reconfigured Memory: An Interview with Mo’min Swaitat of the Palestinian Sound Archive
    3. Huck The Brutal, Unifying Sporting Spectacle of Buzkashi
